Development Associate, Membership
Americas Society, New York

Americas Society seeks an experienced Development Associate – Membership to manage the day-to-day responsibilities of Friends Association Membership (individual membership levels $50 - $1,000), including:

  • Maintaining relationships with members (processing members’ reservations for culture programs in New York; communicating with members at events as well as by email and telephone.)
  • Attracting new members (preparing membership information packets; developing and coordinating membership appeals; conducting membership outreach at culture and public policy programs in New York – some evenings required).
  • Managing the membership database in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Processing new memberships, invoicing and renewals.
This position will support additional activities of the Development department, including grant administration (database entry of grants and generating acknowledgements) and prospect research for President’s Circle membership ($5,000 - $25,000 levels). This position reports to the Senior Director, Foundation and Institutional Giving.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in the mission and goals of the organization and will have a minimum of three to five years of experience in development, with proven abilities to steward membership programs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years development experience with proven track record in membership.
  • Excellent writing and inter-personal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organization skills, initiative, attention to detail, and enthusiasm.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs a must.
  • Willingness to conduct membership outreach at culture and public policy programs in New York, some evenings required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language proficiency a plus.

Grant Writer/Policy & Programs
Americas Society, New York

Americas Society seeks an experienced Grant Writer to conduct prospect research; create, write and track grant proposals to secure contributed support and prepare grant reports for Americas Society’s policy initiatives, programs and publications, including our keystone policy journal, Americas Quarterly: The Policy Journal for Our Hemisphere. This position reports to the Senior Director, Foundation and Institutional Giving.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in the mission and goals of the organization and will have a minimum of three to five years of experience researching prospects and writing successful policy/programs-related grant proposals and reports to foundations. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to meet deadlines and to work within a highly professional and team-oriented environment.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years development experience as a grant writer for policy programs and related projects.
  • Excellent writing, analytical and inter-personal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional organization skills, initiative, energy and enthusiasm.

Position: Graduate-Level Internship, Energy Action Group
Council of the Americas, Washington, DC


The Council of the Americas seeks a graduate student for an internship working on energy and climate change issues. Willing to sign off on university credit for internship. This internship requires strong research and writing skills.

About the Energy Action Group:

The Energy Action Group facilitates the interaction of private and public sector representatives in the development of strategic energy policies for the Americas. Throughout 2009 and 2010, the Energy Action Group is convening meetings of high-level energy and climate leaders and experts across the hemisphere. The EAG will work to develop recommendations for hemispheric leaders on improving energy and climate cooperation in the Americas. For more information, click here.

Key areas of focus during the internship will be:
  • Assisting with planning and holding events, including the creation of invitation lists, sending invitations, and logistics
  • Assisting with research for reports, op-eds, and other publications
  • Drafting invitation and thank you letters
  • Following up with invited speakers and guests
  • Attending events and writing event summaries
  • Special projects

Time Requirement:

  • Part time—at least 20 hours/week

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate student
  • Excellent research skills
  • Excellent English-language writing skills
  • Ability to identify and summarize key points of articles and presentations/meetings
  • Attention to detail
  • Interest in and understanding of history and politics of Latin America
  • Knowledge of energy and climate change issues a plus
  • Fluency in English with a working knowledge of Spanish
  • Previous professional experience in an office environment

Position: Internship, Miami Office

The Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) is seeking an intern for its Miami office.

Principal responsibilities:
  • Researching and identifying prospects for membership, in South Florida as well as throughout Latin America
  • Preparing company profiles for the team
  • Ensuring AS/COA Miami updates are made on the website
  • Providing logistical support for public and private programs
  • Assisting with outreach for various programs
  • Select administrative tasks
  • Special projects, as assigned     
Qualifications:
  • Minimum commitment of 12-15 hours per week
  • At least 2 years of college or university
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Ability to work on a variety of projects and to prioritize
  • Good understanding of databases
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese

This internship may provide unique opportunities to interact with influential businessmen and intellectual leaders throughout the hemisphere. Interns are also able to attend the seminars and meetings organized by AS/COA Miami.

Position: Internship
Council of the Americas, Washington, D.C.

The Council of the Americas Washington office seeks a current master’s degree candidate or undergraduate student with work experience for an internship. Intern assignments include, but are not limited to: researching, writing, attending meetings, interacting with COA members, providing logistical support for policy events, and assisting with administrative tasks. The majority of the internship will focus on providing support to the Policy Directors.

Key areas of focus during the internship will be:
  • Assisting with research and outreach for policy initiatives
  • Arranging meetings with Congressional and Executive Branch officials
  • Providing logistical support for policy events and working groups, including interacting with members and arranging meeting details
  • Producing material for the COA website including program summaries and policy updates
  • Supporting staff in their advocacy efforts
  • Lending support to necessary administrative tasks
Qualifications:

The candidate is expected to be ambitious and self-motivated who can balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be currently enrolled at an accredited university or college studying business, economics, international relations, political science, or a similar program. As this internship position is unpaid, preference will be given to students enrolled in a semester study program which provides college credit toward their degree. Skills and qualifications include:
  • Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week
  • At least 2 years of college or university
  • Fluency in English. Working knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese are a plus
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office
  • In-depth knowledge of the Latin American political and economic climate
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
