Working Groups
The Cuba Working Group includes corporate leaders from the worlds of banking, financial services, energy, telecommunications, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, and law. Working group meetings look at the steps companies can take under current U.S. restrictions to pre-position themselves for future investment.Americas Society and Council of the Americas launched the Energy Action Group (EAG) in September 2004 to work toward energy cooperation and understanding in the Western Hemisphere. The Group works to identify financial, macroeconomic, industry and business specific issues of concern and solutions.
The Hispanic Integration and Immigration Initiative advances the integration of Hispanic immigrants and the upward socioeconomic mobility of Hispanics overall nationally and in new gateway cities across the United States. This initiative also increases awareness of their socioeconomic contributions to society.
The North American Competitiveness Council (NACC)—a partnership between business executives and the governments of the United States, Mexico, and Canada with the goal of boosting North American competitiveness—was active from 2006 to 2009. Council of the Americas served as a member of the NACC secretariat.
The Rule of Law Working Group brought together leaders across a variety of sectors to develop an agenda for improving the rule of law in the Americas.
Funded by the Ford Foundation, the Social Inclusion initiative addresses the systemic problem of social, economic, and political exclusion throughout the Western Hemisphere.
The Council of the Americas launched the Trade Advisory Group in 2004, consisting of the leading experts on trade policy. It provides guidance to the Council on trade and investment related issues, and takes part in exclusive dialogues with relevant U.S. Government and Latin American officials.
