Video: COA's Eric Farnsworth Discusses North American Leaders Summit and NAFTA on C-SPAN

April 22, 2008

Speaking on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, COA Vice President Eric Farnsworth gave his perspective on the April 21 and 22 North American Leaders Summit, explaining that the meeting in New Orleans allows a forum for U.S. President George Bush, Mexico's President Felipe Calderón, and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper to focus on how to boost North American competitiveness. Taking questions by email and phone, Farnsworth also discussed recent debate about the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Farnsworth predicted that the next U.S. president "will certainly take a look at NAFTA and certainly take a look at the North American relationship and see if there are ways to improve it." He explained that NAFTA is a flexible document with a mechanism allowing review and improvement. "[NAFTA is] a way for three countries of their own voluntarily will to come together, in what they perceive to be their self interest, to trade and invest and to find ways to cooperate together," said Farnsworth.
