"The climax in the weeks ahead of Sunday’s vote in Peru has been the dramatic and unforeseen rise of nationalist Ollanta Humala," says Caroline Stauffer from Americas Quarterly online.

A Lima-based correspondent for Thomson Reuters and a former Americas Quarterly editorial associate, Stauffer writes about the "agonizingly tight race featuring months of theatrics from an unprecedented five presidential candidates" which will end with the upcoming frist round on Sunday 10.

Two candidates will go to the runoff. One, according to the polls, should be nationalist left wing and former military officer, Ollanta Humala...
